Saintfield Utd FC supports Action Mental Health in charity walk
It was a cool but bright Sunny day with threatening showerw of rian but that did not deter the many supporters of the Saintfield United FC charity walk for a mental health charity.
Saintfield United have for the third year supported a charity walk in partnership with Action Mental Health (AMH).
Clubman Michael Stoneman said Saintfield United was a key part of the community.
He added that he was “delighted to be able to help out once again in the fundraising walk which was very well supported by around 70 walkers of all ages.”
Sponsor for the event Ricky McCaughran of Copart, a vehicle salvage and auction business that works with insurance companies, said that “we are very happy to support this event as mental health is a very important aspect of our lives.
“Mental health is one side of our health that we should not ignore as anyone can be affected by it. So well done to Saintfield Utd FC for organising the Walk and Talk event.”
Michael Stoneman, Saintfield Utd welfare committee member and child protection officer said in addressing the walkers before the start said: “It is great to see so many people taking part in the charity walk with the sun shining and everyone ready to do their bit for Action Mental Health.
“I would like to thank everyone on behalf of the football club for their support and after the walk everyone is welcome to come and enjoy some refreshments back here at the Saintfield Leisure Centre.”
And speaking after the event, Michael said: “It was so good to see so many people engaged in the Walk and Talk event. We have raised over £400 so far.
“So thank you again to all those who supported us and took part in the Walk and Talk and a special thank you to our sponsors and Copart for their contributions.”
“Action Mental Health is a charity close to the hearts of our club members and AMH are grateful for the support everyone has shown today.”
Saintfield United plays in the Northern Amateur Football League in Division and have had a good season and they are currently placed fourth from the top as the season comes to a close. With one game in hand they are hoping to move up to third spot.
Action Mental Health has centres in Downpatrick, Newtownards, Bangor, Belfast, Lisburn and Newry.
AMH aims to improve the quality of life for people with mental health issues or with learning difficulties and aims to improve their employability in the work place.
