Saintfield Green Space For Newline Area Welcomed

Saintfield estate welcomes topiary transformation

A Housing Executive green space in the Newline area of Saintfield in County Down has been transformed after its adoption by a local community group.

Working in tandem with the housing body, the Saintfield Community Association has installed new plants and shrubs at the site, after Housing Executive staff cleared the area for development.

Neil Andrews, Grounds Maintenance Supervisor at the Housing Executive, said: “Saintfield Community Association Environmental Greens asked if they could adopt and maintain a section of our land to use as a garden and we thought it was a brilliant idea.

“Working with the group the land has been improved significantly with the introduction of attractive flowering plants and shrubbery.

“We removed dead shrubs and replaced old kerbstones, while the group purchased and planted the new greenery.

“Thanks to the efforts of staff and the local community the area now has a space for all to enjoy.”

Vivien Lowell, from Saintfield Community Association, added: “We are absolutely delighted at the creation of a centrepiece for the area with help from the Housing Executive’s maintenance team.

“As a community we take great pride in our area and it is lovely to have the support of the Housing Executive in making these improvements.”
