Ruane Warns Of Dangers Of Quarry Swimming

dn_screenSinn Féin MLA Caitriona Ruane has asked parents to remind their children of the hidden dangers of swimming in quarries.

Ms Ruane said: “With the start of the summer holidays it can be tempting for young people in particular to go swimming in quarries especially if the weather is hot.

“Water in quarries is often much much colder then rivers and the sea. And many quarries can contain old machinery and submerged plants causing dangers, and people just don’t know how deep they are, so I would ask parents to ensure their children keep away from such dangerous places.”
