Ritchie Calls For Compensation For Contaminated Blood Victims

dn_screenSouth Down MP Margaret Ritchie (SDLP) has called on the Under-Secretary of State for Health, Mr Ben Gummer MP, to ensure that a full and final compensation settlement is made available for victims of contaminated blood products and that they have full access to the necessary drugs.

Following a statement in response to an urgent question by the Minister, Ms Ritchie said:xa0“One of my constituents is one of the thousands of people who were infected by contaminated blood and blood products provided by the NHS throughout the 1970’s, 80’s and 90’s.

“The Under Secretary’s announcement that a consultation will be launched will provide little comfort to the victims of this tragedy, who have waited much too long for a resolution. The Secretary of State must act with haste in bringing forward a full compensation settlement for the victims and must ensure that they have full access to the drugs they desperately need.”
