South Down SDLP MLA Seán Rogers has offered a cautious welcome to the announcement that B/E Aerospace will separate its industry leading businesses into two independent publically traded companies.Â
The Mournes representative said: “The Kilkeel plant is a major local employer offering in excess of 800 jobs. It is of critical importance for our local economy that every effort is made to ensure these jobs are secure during this period of strategic review being undertaken by the US Company.”
Conscious that the implications of the announcement have yet to be fully rolled out, Mr Rogers  said: “It appears thus far the continuing standards of manufacturing excellence achieved in the Kilkeel factory have been recognised by those empowered to make decisions on the company’s future.
“Like many such announcements, however, the detail must be fully examined to garner an understanding of how this strategic move may impact our local economy in the long term.
“The Company expects that the separation of its businesses, if completed, would take place in the first quarter of 2015.”
