Road Improvements For C366 Ballyhornan Road From Downpatrick

DOWNPATRICK area Councillor Gareth Sharvin (SDLP) has welcomed the DRD Minister  announcement of £225,000 road improvements for the C366 Ballyhornan Road in Downpatrick.

Regional Development Minister Danny Kennedy has announced that work on a £225,000 resurfacing scheme on the C366 Ballyhornan Road at St. Joseph’s Square, Ballyalton is set to start on Monday 9 December.

Resurfacing of a 1.8 kilometre stretch of road from St. Joseph’s Square to its junction with the Ballycruttle and Ballytrustan Roads is expected to be completed by Friday 20 December 2013.dn_screen

Temporary road closure will be necessary with through-traffic being diverted from 9.00am to 4.30pm daily excluding Sunday 15 December. Diversions will be in place via the C283 Crew Road and B1 Ardglass Road.

Minister Kennedy said: “This scheme represents a significant investment in the roads infrastructure in the Ballyalton area.

“Once work is complete, road users will quickly realise the long term benefits of the new road surface along this stretch.”

Roads Service aims to keep disruptions to a minimum, however, delays should be expected and drivers are asked to be patient and to allow additional time when planning journeys in the area.

As with all work of this nature extreme weather can impact on the completion date. Roads Service will advise the public of any unexpected change to the schedule.

Councillor Sharvin said: “I have been campaigning for these road improvements for some time now and I welcome this great announcement. This will improve the road infrastructure for Ballyalton, Ballynagross, Ballycruttle, Ballytrustan and Ballyhornan.”

“The works will see additional gullies being placed and this will hopefully address areas of flooding along the Ballyhornan road.”
