Margaret Ritchie, SDLP Parliamentary Candidate for South Down, is critical of the inaction of Transport NI for their failure to improve the junction at Downpatrick Road, Killough with the Main Street in the village.
Ms Ritchie said: “With Planning Service approving 64 much needed houses to the rear of the Anne Boal Inn in Killough, there is a compelling obligation on Transport NI to improve the junction at Downpatrick Road, Killough with Main Street in the village.
“So far, in correspondence received from Transport NI, they have failed to recognise the need for an improved junction as a result of increased vehicular traffic and population from the prospective new houses. Furthermore, Transport NI is also giving the impression that this is not their responsibility.
“Road safety, the improvement of road junctions and traffic management are all part of the function of Transport NI. I have now gone back to Transport NI urging them to review their position as a matter of priority in order provide better traffic management for the people of the picturesque maritime village of Killough.”
