SDLP South Down MP Margaret Ritchie is calling for the immediate resolution of outstanding compensation claims resulting from Ulster Bank’s operating errors earlier this summer.
Ms Ritchie has stated that she will be putting this issue to UK Treasury Ministers when Parliament returns next week.
She said: “I raised this issue last week and it is apparent that there are still reports of customers who are unsure whether they will receive compensation, how much any compensation will be worth and when they will find out.
“One of the major issues with the original crisis was the degree of uncertainty created for customers and there are seemingly similar problems with the compensation procedures.
“Many people do not have the luxury of being out hundreds or thousands of pounds and Ulster Bank and their parent company RBS should act quickly to resolve this once and for all.
“RBS are 82% taxpayer owned and I will be pushing the UK Treasury in Westminster to give commitments that no member of the public is out of pocket as the result of the bank’s failure.”
