It was with great sadness that we learned of the passing of Willie Murphy at the weekend. Willie was a great friend of the RGU as well as sponsoring the club over many years. Along with being a friend and supporter of RGU, Willie was also a lifelong Down man and followed the fortunes of Down far and wide.
Willie was also a benefactor of many charities and good causes and will forever be remembered for his association with the Special Olympics. He was one of life’s gentlemen and a great character, Willie will be sadly missed in Downpatrick and further afield. To his widow Monty and entire family circle we extend our deepest sympathy. Mary, Queen of the Gael, Pray for him.

The U-16 boys played some delightful football against Carryduff on Thursday in the first half but failed to convert that into sufficient scores and then paid the price in the second half when they were put to the sword by a much improved performance form the South Belfast side. This week is an away fixture to Ballyholland.
The U-14’s got their season up and running with a well merited victory away to Bryansford. This was a great performance by both teams in very trying conditions.
The boys U-12’s couldn’t build on last week’s win and just came up short against Bredagh despite a very encouraging performance.
The U-10’s had their first outing of the season with a trip to Ardtole. They enjoyed games against Carryduff, Kilclief, Ballykinler, Killyleagh and Ardglass.
