The Biggest Loser 10-week challenge has started last Tuesday 5th April at 7pm in Bright Community Centre. It is not too late to get along and get fit and lose weight in time for the summer. If not wanting to lose weight, why not join in with the fitness class??

Bright Senior men had a tough opening game in horrendous conditions against neighbours Ardglass. While Ardglass opened the scoring, Bright started the better and were rewarded with a goal by Eamon McKinney. The impressive Conor Doyle tormented the Ardglass defence and added 3 more pts before Ardglass hit back with a goal of their own. Points were exchanged between the two teams with Marty Murphy get the last to send the teams in level at half time. 1-6 1-6. The weather got worse in the second half, but again Bright got of to a good start.

Doyle had a couple of goal chances but had to settle for points. Ardglass had no answer to Man of the Match Gareth George as he continued to cause havoc.

Debutants Scott Grieves and Kieran Sullivan impressed while Corey Ranaghan won most of the midfield battles. Barry Mageean and Ciaran Quinn used all their experience to keep it tight in defence. But it just wasn’t enough as Ardglass won by a goal 1-10 2-10. Next match is away to St Michael’s. There was great commitment from this squad in terrible conditions and it is good to see dedication to the team such as young Corey Ranaghan, just out of minor football, who left his uncles wedding celebrations on Friday and returned home to play – many others would have just enjoyed the celebrations. With A levels coming soon many of our young players face huge challenges finding time for study and their football but of course education should come first.

Thanks to Niall Mageean, from Downpatrick Farm and Garden, for sponsoring a new away kit and it was presented to Phyllis Laird Sharvin, Bright Secretary and Sean McLaughlin, Bright Treasurer, before the first home game against Ardglass.

Bright under 16’s continued their strong start to their league campaign last Thursday evening with a convincing win at home against Carryduff. There were Impressive performances all over the field and some well taken scores.
