THE Year 9 Feile got under way during the week, this is basically the U-12 team plus 5 boys from the U-14’s. First up was a match at home under the lights against Bredagh on Monday night. The Hoops raced into an early lead as they dominated the first half and led by 7pts, but they allowed Bredagh back in with a few easy scores to leave 3 between then at the break writes Collie Quinn.
A much improved Bredagh came out after the break and a quick goal leveled the scores. A few more pts put the visitors ahead as Downpatrick wasted chance after chance. The sides were level going into the final play and Bredagh struck decisively to win by a pt. A disappointing end for the boys, but 17 wides over the 50 mins tells the tale. Final score; RGU 3-07, Bredagh 3-08.
After a first round win over Carryduff, Bryansford were the form team coming into the 2nd round of the Year 9 Feile against Downpatrick at PTR on Sunday. A defeat here would have fatally wounded the Hoops chances of progressing further in the competition, but the boys showed what they can do as they comfortably overcame their rivals. They dominated from start to finish with a terrific second half putting some distance between the teams. Two late goals from the visitors took the gloss from the scoreboard, but the Hoops were full value for their win. Final score; RGU 1-12, Bryansford 2-06.
The Juvenile Girls rounded off their season with a well deserved pamper evening at the club on Friday night. It was a great success as almost 50 girls got their nails, hair and make-up done along with making bracelets and necklaces. Thank you to Donna, Siobhan, Andrea, Laura, Elaine, Jane, Martina, Roisin P, Jackie, Simone, Fiona and Brenda, who all helped to make the night such an enjoyable one for the girls.
Just a reminder that the U-6s will keep going for a few more weeks but they have moved indoors to the Ballymote Centre and the session will last from 10.30 to 11.30am.
It’s an exciting week ahead for the Handball Club in the RGU as 14 juvenile members compete in the World Handball Championships down at the Citywest in Dublin. A lot of hard work and training has went into preparing for this and we hope that all the boys and girls do themselves proud and perform to the level that they are capable of.
Competing are Ciaran Hampton, Rhys Cunningham, Rachael McKeown, Ronan Murphy, Ruairi Quinn, Ryan Sterritt, Cara Doran, Sean Fitzsimmons, Tom McNeill, Eoin McMullan, Tim Prenter, Aodhan Harney, Philip Doran and Eilis Murphy. Everyone at the club wishes them well.
