St Joseph’s Primary School, Ballycruttle Learn First Aid.
On Monday 13 January 2020, pupils from St Joseph’s Primary School, Ballycruttle took part in the Mini First Aid kids’ initiative.
The interactive learning programme, which was organised by the Downpatrick District Electoral Area (DEA) and was delivered by Mini First Aid, offered children from P1-P7 the opportunity to develop their first aid skills.
The P1-P3 pupils learned how to get help in an emergency, including the importance of knowing your address, dialling 999 and how to put someone into the recovery position. Pupils from P4-P7 had a more hands on experience and learned how to respond in an emergency first aid situation, which covered dealing with burns, choking, bone breaks and CPR.
The Chair of Downpatrick DEA, Councillor Oonagh Hanlon said: “This is an excellent programme aimed at young children living in a rural area. Basic first aid is an invaluable life skill which can help save lives. The children will become more risk aware and will gain the skills to keep themselves safe and help themselves or others if involved in a medical emergency.”
