Primary Pupils Visit St Malachy’s High School, Castlwellan

P7 students from St Malachy’s Primary School, Castlewellan, visited the ‘big school’ on Thursday 9 March as part of a cross-phase project between the primary school and St Malachy’s High School.

Mrs P Burgess (Literacy coordinator, SMHS) and Mr C McCabe (Literacy Coordinator SMPS) have been sharing good practice in teaching and learning through a project which encourages teachers to observe lessons and teaching methods at both Key Stage 2 and Key Stage 3.

Spending three days in the primary school observing how literacy is delivered in the primary school model, it was ‘back to school’ for Mrs Burgess.

To close the project, the Primary 7 class were invited to the High School library to learn about the transition to post-primary school and what literacy at this level would entail.

Mrs Moran, (SMHS Librarian) spoke to the children about the range of books on offer and how the library system works at secondary school level.
