Castlewellan Community Partnership Welcomes Pride of Place Judges.
Pride of Place judges Mr Blaise Treacy and Mr Terry O’Niadh were welcomed to Castlewellan on Tuesday August 22 by Newry Mourne and Down District Council chairperson Cllr Roisin Mulgrew along with Slieve Croob District Electoral Area chairperson Cllr Stephen Burns and Castlewellan Community Partnership chairman Mr Felix Blaney.
Also attending the event were Slieve Croob area councillors Cllr Garth Craig and Mark Murnin and representatives from local community organisations and statutory agencies.
The Castlewellan Community Partnership group has been nominated by Newry Mourne and Down District Council in the Pride of Place Awards’ community-based youth initiative category.
IPB Pride of Place is an all-island competition that acknowledges the work that communities are doing all over the island of Ireland.
The community group work tirelessly to make Castlewellan a more pleasant place to live, work and socialise, and have been nominated for the competition by Newry Mourne and Down District Council.
The purpose of the competition is to recognise and celebrate the fantastic work being done every day by communities all over the island of Ireland. The IBP Pride of Place is in its fifteenth year has enjoyed tremendous success and continues to grow in popularity.
Newry Mourne and Down District Council is delighted to nominate this proactive group in the Community Based Youth Initiative category.
The judging day will be an opportunity for the Castlewellan group to showcase the great work they have carried out for the community. The partnership will demonstrate their pride in their place to the judges with a presentation, exhibitions of community activities and a tour of the area highlighting the aspects of which they are particularly proud.
Over the past six years Castlewellan Community Partnership has worked closely with Council for the management of the community centre which provides a number of services, such as sporting activities, early start playgroups and a cross community meeting place for a wide range of clubs, societies and groups in the area.
The partnership has also worked closely with Newry Mourne and Down District Council to secure funding for the redevelopment of the community centre which will improve and extend the range of community facilities and services available.
