Stay away from Portico in Portaferry this Halloween if you have a nervous disposition
The Portico of Ards in Portaferry has given its audiences a strongly worded warning about attending its Halloween events this year.
Portico’s Manager Dr Verity Peet said: “We normally love to welcome everyone to our wide range of events throughout the year.
“But on this occasion we want to warn anyone with a nervous disposition or heart condition to stay away.”
On Sunday 29 October at 7.30pm Portico is screening the original ‘Phantom of the Opera’ made in 1925 and starring Lou Chaney as the phantom.
Chaney’s terrifying features have been known to cause ladies to faint and even grown men to change their trousers.
Not only will the visuals be alarming, the live organ accompaniment to the silent movie will be performed by internationally-acclaimed organist Richard Hills.
Hills’ ability to convey tortured pain, turbulent emotion and tempestuous passion may be too much for sensitive souls (alive ones, that is).
Worse still, on Tuesday 31 October at 6pm, Centre Stage Theatre Company is bringing its show ‘Halloween Scream’ to Portico.
This hour long show will no doubt thrill children of all ages, but those who are easily scared or believe in monsters should stay away.
Dr Peet said: “There will be awful creepy organ music, terrifying acting and far too much haze machine fog in gloomy spooky lighting.
“It will be panto-style chaos really. Lovely!”
