POLICE in C District are advising Filling Station managers and sellers of fuel to make sure their stock is well protected and caged off.
The advice follows three burglaries at garage forecourts and supermarkets in the Down area overnight from Friday 12 April into Saturday morning 13 April.
The first theft occurred in the Newcastle road area when thieves broke into mesh cages in a garage forecourt and removed drums of heating oil and red diesel. The second occurred at a local supermarket in the Main Street area of Clough when four oil drums were taken from a locked coal bunker. And finally in the Dublin road area of Castlewellan thieves removed drums containing diesel from a second local supermarket.
A link between all three incidents is being investigated and police would like to speak to the owner of an old style silver coloured Ford Mondeo that was seen in the area.
Anyone with information or who is offered heating oil for sale at low prices in suspicious circumstances sho8uld contact police in Downpatrick on 0845 600 8000. Alternatively you can contact the independent Crimestoppers charity on 0800 555 111.
