FOLLOWING a series of arson attacks on the Dunwellan Park area in Newcastle on Sunday evening (2 June), local police received a report at around 10.30pm when three wheelie bins being set alight and placed against a vehicle, an oil tank and a house.
NIFRS personnel made the area safe and damage was caused only to the bins, which were destroyed. A similar incident took place on Sun 26 May.
Sgt Richard Smyth Newcastle PSNI said: “We are fortunate no one was injured in any of these incidents. But I would remind those responsible that to play with fire is a very dangerous thing. Fire is completely unpredictable and can jump or change direction very quickly. It can not only cause damage to property but could end in the loss of life.”
