While out on patrol in Newcastle on the evening of Friday 27 June, officers from the local Neighbourhood Team noticed that two life belts had been taken from their stands at the Shimna River in the Main Street area of the town. One of the belts was discovered a short time later on the bridge wall and the other was found in the water. Officers are keen to remind anyone who removes a life belt for any other reason than in an emergency, that not only are they putting people’s lives at risk but they may also find themselves liable to prosecution.]]>
