Police Appeal After Back Door In Castlewellan Set Alight

dn_screenDownpatrick detectives are appealing for information following an arson attack on a house in the Station Avenue area of Castlewellan in the early hours of this morning, Wednesday, 10 December.

At approximately around 3.30am this morning, Police received a report that the back door of a house had been set on fire. The fire was quickly extinguished. There was no major damage caused.

There was a woman in the house at the time, however, she was not injured.

Detective Constable Spence said: “I would appeal to anyone who may have noticed any suspicious activity in the area or who has information about this incident to contact Detectives at Downpatrick on the non-emergency number 101.

UPDATE Thursday 11th December 2014: 1150am.

A 31-year-old mam has been arrested following a fire at the property in the Station Avenue area of Castlewellan. Detective Inspector Debbie Eakin explained: “At approximately 3:30am on December 10th, police received a report of a fire at a property in the area. No-one was injured as a result of the fire. “Detectives investigating the fire later arrested a 31-year-old man on suspicion of arson endangering life. He has since been released on bail pending further enquiries.”
