NEWCASTLE area SDLP Councillor Eamonn ONeill has spoken out regarding the ongoing digital switchover.
Councillor ONeill said, “I have been approached by a constituent from the Castlewellan area who is set to lose the RTE channels as a result of the Digital Switchover.
“This pensioner applied to the Digital Switchover Help Scheme and the engineers attended her home, only to advise that the demand for the boxes that accommodate RTE had been greater than anticipated and as such the box that was provided is unable to receive a signal for RTE.
“So in essence this pensioner who has watched RTE all her life will no longer be able to do so. The engineer agreed to obtain the appropriate box as soon as possible but no date could be given.
“Surely members of the public should have been asked from the onset if they require a box that receives a signal for RTE. I have made representations in this regard and am awaiting a response as I believe it to be unfair if someone who has watched RTE over the past number of years should not be allowed to continue doing so.“
