Newry Mourne and Down District Council is delighted to announce that the Phase 2 development of Newry Leisure Centre will commence on site in the coming weeks.
The main facilities of the new phase will include a eight court sports hall, four court sports hall, state of the art gym, class and spinning studios, multi-purpose rooms, squash and handball facilities, cafe, soft play and birthday room.
The cost of the new phase will be approximately £9.5M and will enhance the work already completed during phase 1 of Newry Leisure Centre.
Newry Mourne and Down District Council Chairperson, Councillor Naomi Bailie, who has on Monday evening stepped aside to get ready to have her babu, said: “This is fantastic news for the district to have all of these facilities available under the one roof once the development is complete.
“It builds upon the excellent work by the previous Council but highlights the new Council’s commitment to Health and Wellbeing of residents and visitors alike. I hope that the people of Newry and the wider Council area will enjoy this new centre and that it will encourage as many people as possible to keep active.”
The new centre is expected to be complete and operational by mid 2017 and will bring the total investment by the Council on Newry Leisure Centre to approximately £18million.
