Council Supports Local Businesses this Christmas with New ‘Make it Local’ Campaign

Newry Mourne and Down District Council is rolling out a new advertising and promotional campaign over the Christmas period, encouraging everyone to ‘Make it Local’ by buying from, celebrating and supporting their local and independent businesses.

Featuring the strapline ‘This Christmas, Make it Local’ the campaign launches on Monday 2 December and introduces the friendly faces behind some of the district’s independent businesses while focusing on the message that small business owners are a vital part of our community.

Through a mix of digital, print, social media and promotional PR, the ‘Make it Local’ campaign showcases businesses in Newry, Downpatrick, Ballynahinch, Camlough, Kilkeel, Newcastle and Warrenpoint.

Coinciding with the busy Christmas shopping period the campaign is designed to engage residents and visitors alike by showcasing the fantastic variety of goods and services available throughout the district

It aims to encourage shoppers to support local and independent businesses when making their festive purchases, to help foster a thriving, resilient, and sustainable community and local economy across the district.

Newry, Mourne and Down District Council Chairperson, Councillor Pete Byrne said: “Make it Local is a fantastic initiative that has been running for several years in partnership with local traders.

“This campaign plays a pivotal role in ensuring the sustainability and vibrancy of our district.

“By choosing to shop locally, we are not only helping our businesses to thrive but are also making a conscious decision to create jobs and give a much-needed financial boost to the local economy.”

“As we approach the festive season, I encourage everyone to embrace the spirit of community by supporting local shops and services both in-person and online.

“Together, we can create a thriving environment that benefits us all and ensures that our district remains a great place to live, work and visit. Let’s make this Christmas special by making it local!”
