Ruane Signs Rugby Ball to Help Environment

SINN Féin South Down MLA Caitriona Ruane has endorsed the campaign calling for targets on climate change to be set by signing a rugby ball.

South Down MLA Caitriona Ruane signs the rugby ball.

Ms. Ruane said: “There is little doubt that our climate is changing and causing severe problems in areas such as farming and fishing as we see more and more adverse weather conditions.

“It is important that we take climate change seriously and in order to do so we must set targets to be achieved to minimise the danger to the environment and protect nature.

“I however would urge the campaigners to ensure that these targets are set on an all Ireland basis. This would ensure that border areas would not be competing as factories and businesses could opt for an area with less enforcement of targets.

“Also with this being such a small island having separate targets it would make it near possible to measure any atmospheric change and therefore not have the desired effect of protecting the environment.”
