Sinn Féin Mourne’s Councillor Willie Clarke has condemned those responsible for lighting fires at the Islands Park in Newcastle.
Mourne’s Sinn Féin Councillor Willie Clarke has condemned those responsible for the recent small fire at Islands Park, in Newcastle, an area which is continuously plagued with anti social behaviour at Islands Park.
Cllr Clarke said: “There was an incident on Saturday 5th of June involving a small fire at the public toilets in Islands Park Newcastle.
“At this stage it is unclear how the fire started and therefore Council officers are working closely with the Fire Service and PSNI to establish the cause.
“While this was a small fire and no NIFRS crew were in attendance, there is smoke damage and mechanical equipment has been burnt beyond repair. However, the structure remains intact.
“Council officers will be working to repair the damage caused and reinstate the facility as soon as possible.
“It is scandalous that while I am lobbying for new upgraded public convenience in Newcastle, it is unacceptable that these efforts are being undermined by these mindless actions.
“I will be working in partnership with police and PCSP to ensure there is greater police presence around Islands Park,” added Cllr Clarke.
