New Look Unveiled For Supervalu Downpatrick

Supervalu Downpatrick unveils a new look after a £750,000 refurbishment

Musgrave NI has invested £750,000 in rejuvenating its SuperValu store and Post Office in Downpatrick, which officially unveiled its new look on Saturday 31st August 2024.

The store which has been serving the community of Downpatrick since 1996 and supports 42 jobs locally, has been totally transformed to offer its customers a bright and contemporary new layout and more modern shopping experience.

Ahead of the official opening, pupils from Our Lady and St Patrick’s Primary and St Colmcille’s Primary schools visited the store and received donations of £100 for each school’s funds while the children each received a £50 Smyth’s voucher after winning a colouring competition.

The major investment has allowed for new and exciting additions in store, including over 500 new products, a new hot and cold deli counter offering customers freshly made sandwiches, and a selection of hot foods to go.

Meat from local butchery McGreevy’s features instore while customers can enjoy an increased range of freshly baked items from the in-store bakery.

A standout feature is the new look off-licence which has been significantly extended with an improved range of beers, wines, and spirits plus a dedicated zero zone, while the store now features self-scan checkouts for an improved and more efficient checkout experience.

Commenting on the refurbished store, Caroline Rowan, Head of Retail Operations for Musgrave NI said: “SuperValu is a community retailer and this is particularly evident in our Downpatrick store and Post Office, which have been providing a much-valued service for residents for almost 30 years.

“This is a significant investment for us in the town and we’re delighted to offer an enhanced service for our customers. I’d also like to congratulate our store manager Elaine, who is celebrating 25 years working in SuperValu Downpatrick!

Shoppers can also benefit from the digital loyalty app which offers a free coffee after earning ten digital stamps.

In addition to an enhanced product range, including the new Good Food Locally Sourced range which supports local suppliers, and as part of SuperValu’s commitment to value, shoppers will benefit from over 200 special offer items every week and over 500 own brand products up to 40% cheaper than better known brands.

This is as well as the Epic Deals promotion on four big brand products, which change every three weeks.

Caroline Rowan added: “We are proud to support local businesses. Every year Musgrave NI spends more than £166m on local food and drink.

“We work with more than 3,000 local farmers, partner with over 240 local suppliers and stock over 4,500 local products across our stores.

“We’re also committed to our partnership with Action Cancer, a local charity that visits communities across Northern Ireland with its life-saving early detection services.”

Supporting Musgrave’s ambition of achieving net zero carbon emissions by 2040, the store has also been refitted with energy saving technology.

This includes energy efficient LED lighting, top-grade energy efficient refrigeration, as well as electronic shelf edge labels which will reduce paper usage.
