DOWN County Museum is offering the opportunity, through its current PEACE III programme, for members of the public to participate in a free guided bus tour on Saturday 1 September. The tour will focus on some of the Early Christian sites of north Lecale including Magh Inis (the island plain) where St Patrick founded his first church in Ireland at Saul.
Starting from Down County Museum, the bus tour will include visits to church and pilgrimage sites at Struell Wells, Saul Church and graveyard, the location of St Patrick’s arrival in Lecale at the mouth of the Slaney in AD 432, and Raholp Church. Seats will be available on a first come, first served basis and must be booked in advance to guarantee a place. The tour will leave the Museum at 2pm and return there at 5.30pm.
Down County Museum has been awarded a grant from the North Down, Ards and Down PEACE III Partnership to organise a community history project for groups in the Down District, North Down and Ards Borough Council areas.
If you would like to book a place, please contact Danielle Smyth or Linda McKenna at Down County Museum on 028 4461 5218 or email danielle.smyth@downdc.gov.uk
