Action Cancer, Northern Ireland’s leading local cancer charity, is delighted to announce the launch of their 2015 Mothers’ Day Sponsored Walk, which will take place on Saturday 14 March 2015, within the beautiful grounds of Hillsborough Forest Park, Co Down. Now in its eight year, the walk is being co-hosted with Bar Retro at The Plough, Hillsborough, where all participants will be given a well-deserved goody bag sponsored by SuperValu, and also treated to mid-morning tea/coffee, scones and traybakes after the walk.

For those who may have lost someone close to them – the walk and morning treats is a comforting way to do something in memory of that loved one.
“It is fantastic to have the support of Supervalu this year who are supplying goodies for all participants. And of course remember that for every £80 raised from the event, we are able to provide a free breast screening for women aged between 40-49 years and 70 years plus – we want as many people as possible to take part and show their support again this year.” The 1.5 mile route is suitable for all, including buggies and takes in a beautiful tree fringed lake, which traditionally attracts a lot of wildfowl including ducks and swans. The walk will start at 10am on Saturday 14 March – registration is from 9.45am. There will be free car parking facilities at the forest park and directions will be in place for all walkers with an Action Cancer guide leading the way. In order to take part, all you have to do is contact Action Cancer for a registration form and pay a fee of £10 per adult or £5 per child and then just raise as much sponsorship as you can. What money is raised from the walk will help Action Cancer to continue to save lives and support people affected by cancer in Northern Ireland. It is now predicted that one in two people will be given a diagnosis of cancer at some stage in their lives. Action Cancer provides breast screening services for women aged between 40-49 and 70 plus. Each month over 1,000 women are screened free of charge and out of this nearly seven breast cancers are detected. Please help to continue to offer this service to the women of Northern Ireland. A digital mammogram costs Action Cancer £80 per person. Action Cancer does not currently receive any government funding and needs to raise at least £3.5 million a year to continue its services. Therefore, your support with this event will be very much appreciated. For further information on the event and an information pack, including registration form, map and sponsor forms, please contact Sarah-Jayne on tel: 028 9080 3379.
