South Down MLA Karen McKevitt (SDLP) has secured an extension to a consultation with Ashgrove residents in Warrenpoint about the installation of additional phone antennae in the area.
Mrs McKevitt, who helped residents to successfully fight similar moves in 2007, said: “I was taken aback when I discovered that once again Ashgrove has been targeted as a location for additional phone antennae. I was more alarmed to discover that the consultants employed by the developer had set aside only ten days for residents to respond to the proposals.
“This was a fight I took up on behalf of residents in 2007 and 2008 while a member of Newry and Mourne District Council and I’m therefore very passionate about their rights in the matter. I have spoken with the consultants and secured an extra ten days time for local people to submit their views on the proposals which would see another three masts erected.
“I have been in touch with my colleague, Environment Minister Mark H Durkan, about particular issues surrounding the development and hope that he can offer more information for residents. This was a fight that I took up before and will gladly take up again for local people.
“Any residents who want to feed in to the consultation can get in touch with Jacquelyn Fee of Mono Consultants on jacquelyn.fee@monoconsultants.com or by telephone on 02890 737297.
“I am happy to provide any assistance possible to residents in preparing a response.”
