First Minister the Rt. Hon. Peter D. Robinson MLA has today appointed Strangford DUP MLA Michelle McIlveen to the post of Junior Minister in the Office of the First Minister and Deputy First Minister.
Ms McIlveen is currently Chair of the Education Committee. Her new portfolio will include responsibilities for children and young people, older people, victims and survivors of historic institutional abuse, promoting equality of opportunity and good relations.
Announcing the appointment the First Minister Peter Robinson said: “I am delighted that Michelle has accepted the post of Junior Minister. I know that her experience, dedication and determination to help all those she serves will prove to be a great benefit for everyone in Northern Ireland.”
Speaking after her appointment Ms McIlveen said: “I am honoured to accept the post as Junior Minister in the Office of the First Minister and Deputy First Minister. My focus in the coming weeks will be on gaining an in-depth knowledge of my new role and responsibilities in an area that strives to make life better for some of the most vulnerable people in our society.
“I look forward to this challenging post and I am determined to build on the excellent work carried out by my predecessor, Jonathan Bell, to help make Northern Ireland a better place for us all.”
