Progress needed on Tullybrannigan Road in Newcastle says SDLP
The SDLP’s Colin McGrath MLA and Mournes Councillor Laura Devlin have said that progress is needed on the resurfacing of Newcastle’s Tullybrannigan Road, highlighting issues it has been causing.
The South Down Assemblyman has said: “The Tullybrannigan Road really does require to see resurfacing of late.
“The condition of the road had become more chipped and this was causing issues for local road users.
“While we absolutely welcome these recent works, it does feel at this stage that it is taking an unnecessary length of time.
“These works commenced in early June with loose chipping left laying for a considerable length of time, which caused real problems for walkers and horse riders along the road.
“We are now in a place where we have a temporary surface, no road marking and the road still not complete. This work needs to be completed.”
Councillor Devlin added: “Following this, Colin and I have written to the local DFI Roads team to request some timeframes for the completion of these works and to address what has caused this delay.
“While the Tullybrannigan Road is busy throughout the year, during the summertime we see a larger variety of road users.
This includes many people who are not familiar with the area.
“Therefore having the road surface in the condition it presently is, is simply not viable, especially during the summer season.”
Mr McGrath also said: “I would hope to see these works completed as soon as possible, for the good of local residents and those who make use of this road on a regular basis.
“I would appeal to residents or road users, if they have encountered any problems on these roads to please get in touch and let me know.”
