Councillor Cathy Mason welcomes the £150,000 budget for financial assistance of Tourism and Arts Events in Newry Mourne and Down District Council.
The hard pressed tourism and arts sectors across Newry Mourne and Down have received a boost from Newry Mourne and Down District Council.
Cllr Cathy Mason said: “Since the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic, our tourism and arts and events industries have been severely impacted. Annual events and festivals faced cancellation for two consecutive years.
“No doubt the restrictions have hit our local businesses and economy hard. Tourism and Arts events will play a critical role in the rebuilding of our tourism economy and will work to promote Newry, Mourne and Down to attract visitors as we continue to emerge from the crisis and further relax restrictions.”
“This will be hugely welcome news for local organisers who plan to deliver tourism and arts festivals and events from September 2021 to March 2022 as well as the local community who will be able to get out and about to enjoy these events again.
“It is paramount that these events strictly adhere to all Covid regulations, and the organisers must ensure the safety of all staff and attendees of the event.
“I look forward to seeing the return of such events and will work with the Council and local organisers to ensure success and safety across our District, added Cllr Mason.
