New Season of Live Performances at Down Arts Centre
‘Knowing the Dance’ kicks off the new season of performances at Down Arts Centre on Saturday 9 September. This show is a thought-provoking sequence of poems simultaneously performed by poet Olive Broderick and dancer Paula Guzzanti with musician Martin Devek.
Music highlights this season include ‘McPEAKE’, a folk band with a combination of traditional and pop lyrics on Friday 15 September. Making a welcome return to Down Arts Centre, ‘The Illegals with Niamh Kavanagh’ will perform on Friday 3 and Saturday 4 November. Brigid O’Neill, a Downpatrick based singer/songwriter will also be performing songs from her brand new album ‘Touchstone’ on Friday 10 November.
Theatre highlights include ‘My Father’s Chair’ on Sunday 24 September, a performance for the whole famiy about the nature of fatherhood.
In ‘Dirty Dusting’ starring May McFettridge, three cleaners are threatened with redundancy until a wrong number gives them a new business start-up idea. This laugh-out-loud comedy comes to Down Arts Centre on Saturday 30 September and is not to be missed!
The Hotbuckle Theatre Company will perform ‘Wuthering Heights’ at Down Arts Centre on Friday 20 October, bringing their unique magic to this classic story.
‘Poe Triple Bill’ on Saturday 28 October will bring three classic Edgar Allen Poe stories to life through shadow puppetry, music and narration – just in time for Halloween.
The annual Christmas show, ‘Little Miss Muffet’s Christmas Caper’ will see the children in the audience try to save Little Miss Muffet from the weird and worrisome witch!
Join comedian Owen O’Neill in ‘Red Noise’ on Saturday 16 September for a night of poetry, theatrical monologue and stand-up storytelling, while Teresa Livingstone will treat her audience to a night of musical comedy on Friday 13 October in her show, ‘Delighted’.
