County Down community choir Voices of Lecale has once again handed over a cheque to another deserving charity.
A cheque for £1,000 was presented to Seamus Camplisson, Chairperson of Harmony Community Trust (Glebe House), Kilclief.
The outgoing Chairperson of Voices of Lecale, Veronica Burns said: “Our choir members are delighted to be able to help another very worthwhile charity in the run up to Christmas, especially as this one is so close to home. The money has been raised from a variety of social activities run by the choir over the past year. We agreed at our AGM in 2017 to fund-raise for Glebe House for two years and so we hope to be able to hand over another cheque in 2019.
“Since the choir was formed in 2007 all our profits have been donated to a range of worthwhile charities and the total now stands at £29,000. I’d like to say how proud I am as I step down as chairperson of Voices of Lecale that our choir has been able to make a difference while we continue to have fun singing. A big thank-you to everyone in the Downpatrick community and further afield who has helped us reach this impressive total. Special thanks are also due to our committee members, past and present who do such great work behind the scenes.
The cheque was handed over at Down Arts Centre on Wednesday 17 November.
The choir’s Musical Director Laura Plummer said: “Like Veronica, I am very proud of the choir and hope that we can keep up the good work.
“We have a Christmas concert coming up this year on 2 December at Down Arts Centre and we’ll also be out and about in the mid-Down area carol-singing and selling our latest Christmas CD ‘Oh watch the stars‘.
“All proceeds will go to Glebe House so I hope anyone with an interest in this charity will help us to help them.”
Voices of Lecale community choir is a registered charity founded in 2007 and has gone from strength to strength with four recorded albums of songs and performances at concerts, festivals and community venues throughout the County Down and Belfast area.
