FREE EVENT in Downpatrick for those who care for children with mental health issues

Children all need support when growing up and especially through the Covid pandemic period. And now there is a new kid on the block, an Ollie Coach!

A what ? Yes, an Ollie coach!

Avrill Annett, a former mental health nurse who worked in Puddysburn Hospital, has three boys and a girl. She explained that it was because of the lack of support for her daughter who has autism that she developed specialist skills in working with children who experience emotional wellbeing issues.

Avril said: “I am proud to say that I am an Ollie Coach. I would like to tell you a little bit about myself, my journey and our exciting FREE event that is taking place in May 2022.

Ollie and his super powers.

“I’m married with four grown up children and I’m also a nanny to two beautiful grandsons. I live just outside of Downpatrick, but I’m originally from Tyrone.

“I and happy to say that I am the first person in Northern Ireland and Ireland to qualify as an Ollie Coach in May 2019.

“I’m an Emotional Wellbeing Coach for children and young people, I have a passion and commitment to empower those I work with and I’m committed to building resilience by using a strengths based approach in my work.

“I support children and young people to recognise, understand, express and manage their emotions which in turn makes a real impact on their lives. Not only at home but in a school setting as well.

“I also support parents, schools and any other professional or organisation that is involved in a child’s life.

“I was led down this path by my own life experiences. I worked as a Mental Health Nurse before becoming a stay-at-home mum to my youngest child, who has an Autism Spectrum diagnosis.

“Also, I home-schooled my daughter for a number of years, and more recently I volunteered with a group that supported parents of children with Special Educational Needs and another group that delivered emotional wellbeing programmes in local primary schools.

“We are delighted to announce that our Learn How to Speak ‘Ollie’ event is taking place in just 3 weeks time and we would love for you to join us.

“I will be joined for the session by my colleague Moya Laird, Ollie Coach, and the founder of Ollie and His Super Powers and creator of the ‘Ollie Model’, Alison Knowles.

“Our event takes place on Wednesday 18th May 2022 at The Ballymote Sport and Wellbeing Centre, 96 Glebetown Dr, Downpatrick BT30 6PX, and we will be running two sessions on the day:
