Liverpool Arrest of Kilkeel Men.
TWO KILKEEL men were arrested in Liverpool on Friday after a HGV lorry was stopped and searched leading to a discovery of 5kg of cocaine on board writes Laura Barr.
The first lorry was stopped on Friday, 13 November at 6.30pm on Princess Way, Seaforth.
Merseyside Police conducted a search by their Dogs Unit, the Border Force and the Port Police where five 1kg packets of cocaine were discovered.
The driver, 30-year-old Andrew Cousins from Kilkeel was arrested for possession with intent to supply Class A drugs.
He has since been charged and appeared at Liverpool Crown Court on Monday, 16 November where he was remanded in custody until 14 December.
Police said a second lorry linked to the first was also stopped nearby on Derby Road, Bootle where another 30-year-old man, also from Kilkeel was arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to supply Class A drugs.
He has since been released on police bail until next month.
Merseyside Police confirmed to Down News that a “joint investigation is ongoing”.
A spokesperson said: “Anyone that knows the whereabouts of drugs, how they are being transported from place to place and who is involved in this, should get in touch as a matter of urgency to keep our communities safe.”
