Transport Minister Danny Kennedy has announced that a £215,000 roads improvement scheme on the A2 Dundrum Road, Clough, is set to begin on Monday 5 January.
The resurfacing scheme of around a 1 Km stretch of the road from the Blackstaff Road junction to the Knocksticken Road junction is expected to be complete by end of January.
Minister Kennedy said: “This £215,000 scheme represents a significant investment in the roads infrastructure on the route between Belfast and Newcastle.
“Once work is complete, road users will quickly realise the long term benefits from the new road surface along the stretch.”
To help ensure the safety of road users and contractors a temporary 40 mph speed limit will be in place for the duration of the scheme.
For the final phase of the improvements it will be necessary to close the road from Monday 26 January to Friday 30 January. Traffic will be diverted through Castlewellan via the A25 Castlewellan Road and A50 Newcastle Road.
TransportNI aims to keep disruptions to a minimum, however, delays should be expected and drivers are asked to allow additional time when travelling in the area. As with all work of this nature, extreme weather can impact on the completion date.
