Transport Minister Danny Kennedy has announced that a £110,000 road improvement scheme on Oughley Road and part of Drumalig Road near Saintfield is scheduled to begin on Monday 22 June.
Resurfacing works will take place between 8am and 6pm daily including some weekend working. Work is expected to be complete by Friday 10 July.
Danny Kennedy said: “This scheme will greatly improve the strength and surface quality of the carriageway. Residents and visitors to the area will benefit from the investment.”
Whilst the Department’s resource budget for activities such as routine maintenance is severely reduced, funding for this scheme is from the capital budget for major projects and new road schemes which is less affected by the current pressures.
To help ensure the safety of road users and contractors, traffic management will be in place including a road closure. Well signposted diversions will be in operation.
TransportNI has planned the improvements and traffic management arrangements to minimise any inconvenience to the public, however, drivers should expect delays and are advised to allow additional time when travelling in the area.
As with all schemes of this type the scheduled dates are subject to favourable weather conditions. For traffic information and news of improvement schemes across Northern Ireland visit:
