ON the invitation of Principal Ken Webb, well-known and highly respected journalist, Michael Drake, from near Downpatrick, recently visited the South Eastern Regional College’s Downpatrick Campus.
During the tour Mr Drake met with students and spent time talking to them about their course and their plans for the future. Later, he took a tour of the college’s state-of-the-art-facilities where he met many more students in their lessons.
Commenting on the visit Mr Drake said: “It was great to visit SERC and meet the staff and students’. I met with a number of inspiring students and wish them well in their endeavours.
“I was amazed by the scale of the campus its facilities and all it contains. Without doubt it is making a major contribution to the educational needs of Downpatrick and a much wider area. SERC provides invaluable opportunities for students who want to study academic as well as vocational courses, such as plumbing, hairdressing and engineering. It was a privilege to be shown around the college and talk to the students.”
The visit was an enormous success which was thoroughly enjoyed by all the students and staff, and it certainly created a buzz about media and journalism.
