Following the announcement that the Newtownards Branch of the Bank of Ireland is to close, Strangford MP Jim Shannon MP has had a series of meetings to ensure that customers’ banking needs will continue to be met.
He said: “Following on from a most productive meeting with the Financial Services Union last week, I have met with regional managers from the Bank of Ireland. The closure of the branch in Newtownards is most regrettable and it was important to ensure that customers who bank there are going to continue to have their needs met.
“Not everyone is able to avail of online banking so it was therefore important that customers are going to be able to bank with a branch of their choice. The meeting was most productive and the Bank of Ireland team assured me that they will work with customers of the Ards branch to ensure that their banking needs will continue to be met when the branch closes and that the engagement process with customers will commence in early September.”
