Interests of Ireland will never be served at Westminster says Hazzard.
South Down Sinn Féin MP Chris Hazzard has said the ongoing crisis in the British parliament when Boris Johnston’s Conservatives lost a key vote in the Commons, shows once more that the interests of the people of Ireland will never be served at Westminster.
Mr Hazzard, who is an abstentionist MP, not taking the oath at Westminster, said: “In the unfolding and deepening crisis at Westminster the only thing clear is that the interests of the people of Ireland will not be served there.
“The Tory Brexiteers and their DUP allies are ignoring the repeated warnings of the dire consequences of Brexit because they simply do not care about the impact this disastrous policy will have on the north, its people or our peace agreements.
“Instead they are focused on their own narrow self-interests and those of the millionaire elites.
“The nationalist and republican people have rejected Westminster, realising it is the source of the problems around Brexit and that solutions to those problems will not be found there.
“Sinn Féin will continue to work with the EU, the Irish government and Irish America to ensure the interests of the people of Ireland and the Good Friday Agreement are protected.”
