South Down MLA Chris Hazzard has been in contact with DRD Roads Service following a number of complaints regarding road safety concerns in Drumaness.
The Sinn Fein MLA said he shared residents’ concerns that speeding along the Crawfordstown Road was a “growing problem” and must be addressed.
Mr Hazzard said: “An increasing number of cars appear to be speeding along the Crawfordstown Road when they are approaching the village. Unfortunately there is a complete lack of road safety features that alerts them to the reality that there are many children at play in this area.
“The roundabout might as well not be there – it is merely paint on the road for all too many drivers.
“I have asked that Roads Service officials come out to the village and assess this situation as a matter of urgency.
“There are a number of solutions that could be applied including additional signage, speed ramps, rumble strips, or indeed an upgraded roundabout – either way, the people of Drumaness are adamant that something must be done to ensure the safety of elderly residents and young children.”
