The Opthalmology Department in the Downe Hospital has hosted a ground breaking workshop for nurses involved in cataract surgery, a first for Northern Ireland.
The phaco/cataract study day, co-ordinated by Sister Dolores Boyle, Theatre Manager at the Downe Hospital, was attended by 65 healthcare professionals from across the five hospital Trusts and from the private sector. It was also attended by Dr Olivia Early, Consultant Opthalmologist, who heads the cataract surgery programme at the Downe.
Sister Boyle said: “This is a great opportunity for nurses to upskill. We had very positive evaluations from staff who attended and it is hoped this will become a yearly event.”
