INCOMING Sinn Féin Councillor Mark Gibbons has called on the public to get behind a local athlete and the Irish Paralympics Swimming Team for the RTE sports awards on Saturday.
Mr.Gibbons said: “The people of Rostrevor and indeed the wider South Down area are already immensely proud of the achievements that Laurence McGivern has earned, including winning a bronze medal at the Irish Paralympic Committee Swimming World Championships, and that is a testament to the hard work and training Laurence has put in over the years.
“Now it is time for the people to give something back to Laurence and the whole Irish Paralympic Swimming Team. This Saturday Laurence and his fellow team mates are nominees in the ‘Team of the year’ category on the RTE Sports awards, and it is up to the public to choose the winner on the night.
“I want to encourage the public to show Laurence just how proud we all are by tuning in and voting for his team on the night. The details for voting by phone and online will be supplied on the show. So tune into RTE 1 at 9.45pm on Saturday evening and help to get Laurence and the Irish Paralympic Swimming Team the credit they deserve,” added Mr Gibbons.
