Special Olympics Ulster is extending an open invitation to golfers from across Northern Ireland to take part in its annual Golf Challenge alongside leading broadcaster and patron of Special Olympics, Gerry Kelly, on Friday 11 August 2017.
The challenge will be taking place at the superb 18-hole links course at Ardglass Golf Club set on the coast of County Down, home to the world’s oldest clubhouse, with fantastic views of the Irish Sea from every hole.
Gerry Kelly, broadcaster and patron of Special Olympics Ireland, said: “I am delighted to be part of this fantastic golfing event with Down Special Olympics Club this year on my home course. Down Special Olympics Club is a cross-community sports club that continues to make a major difference to the lives of many athletes with an intellectual disability and it is a privilege for me to be part of that.”
Frank Donnelly, chairman of Down Special Olympics, also said: “We are thrilled that Special Olympics Ireland patron, Gerry Kelly, is joining us for this wonderful event. Down Special Olympics Club has helped change lives through sport for many years; helping athletes develop both physically and emotionally, make new friends, realise their dreams and know that they can fit in with others. This is set to be an enjoyable day for all.”
The day will include prizes for the highest scoring team, best individual score card, longest drive and nearest the pin. Registration costs include green fees, a goody bag, 10th green refreshments, fruit, snacks and an evening meal. In addition, there will be some super prizes to be won as part of a raffle later in the evening.
