NI Water has announced plans for a significant capital investment project to reduce the risk of flooding in the Rostrevor area, County Down.
St Jude’s Gardens, Rostrevor has experienced flooding due to heavy storm conditions and heavy rainfall in recent times. Following on from consultation with elected representatives and local residents, an investigation was launched into the existing Rostrevor drainage network, with a view developing a solution to help alleviate the flooding issue in the area.
A mini drainage area study was commissioned by NI Water and included CCTV survey investigations into the existing sewerage system. Following on from this study, the recommended solution will involve the provision of new dedicated stormwater sewers and the construction of associated manholes within the existing Rostrevor sewerage network, to facilitate the removal of stormwater from the existing sewerage system.
The scheme will provide benefits to the Rostrevor drainage catchment by alleviating the volume of stormwater flow within the combined sewerage system, which will help to reduce the risk of flooding at St Jude’s Gardens, Rostrevor. Once complete, the scheme will also accommodate existing and future development in the Rostrevor area, by allowing for future connections to the new dedicated stormwater sewers.
Work will take place throughout the Rostrevor area, including sewer re-alignment works at Mary Street/Shore Road junction, which will improve the performance of the sewers arriving at the Mary Street/St Jude’s Gardens / Shore Road junction.
It is anticipated that NI Water will commence work on site in the Autumn of 2013, with an expected completion date in the spring of 2014. We would like to thank the public in advance for their patience during this essential improvement work.
