SDLP Councillor Gillian Fitzpatrick has urged vigilance among the farming community after the attempted theft of fertiliser in the Mayobridge area.
Cllr Fitzpatrick said: “Farming families across the North are continuing to find it difficult to make ends meet as a result of suppressed dairy and meat prices. The last thing anyone needs is a theft or a burglary setting them back even further.
“After the attempted theft of fertiliser in Mayobridge last night, I’m urging local people to exercise extra vigilance and to safeguard their properties. I would also appeal to people to look out for their neighbours, this is a tight knit community so it’s important that we all have each other’s back.
“If anyone notices anything suspicious, I would encourage them to report it to the police as soon as possible.”
