McGrath welcomes expansion for Finnebrogue Artisan.
The SDLP’s Colin McGrath MLA has welcomed news of expansion at Finnebrogue Artisan in Downpatrick.
Commenting the South Down MLA said: “This highly significant investment of £25million will be a huge boost to the local Downpatrick area and wider rebuild of the north as we continue to fight our way through this pandemic.
“The expansion will create an additional 300 jobs which will be local, sustainable and offer those applying the chance to advance in their careers.
“It is really a testament to the type of creative thinking which we should be tapping into more that demonstrates the payoff from hard work, innovation, and an employer’s willingness to invest in people.
“I pay tribute to CEO Denis Lynn who started this fledgling company and has spearheaded every single level of expansion and ingenuity over the last thirty-five years – often with little or no investment from the public purse.
“The pioneering vision of Finnebrogue Artisan is challenging us all to think about how we respond to the climate crisis through their production of nitrate free bacon or revolutionary plant-based meat alternatives.
“I can only hope that as we make our way through the current pandemic that those within the Executive such as our Economy Minister will learn a valuable lesson from organisations such as Finnebrogue Artisan and what can be achieved with a clear vision and authentic leadership.”
