Fews Ensemble To Perform Irish and World Premieres
The Newry-based Fews Ensemble is set to perform Irish and world premieres.
A trio of Ireland’s classical contemporary giants will create a musical memory in their premieres.
It takes place on Saturday 13th May at 7.30pm in the The Harty Room, QUB, Belfast, and on Sunday 14th May at 2.30pm in Warrenpoint Town Hall.
One of the rarest compositions by Northern Ireland composer Hamilton Harty composed almost 100 years ago will be performed in what is believed to be its Irish premiere by the highly acclaimed Newry-based Fews Ensemble.
The concert will feature some of the most iconic works of the Northern Irish classical music scene, including Hamilton Harty’s Piano Quintet and Joan Trimble’s Phantasy Trio.
In addition, the Fews Ensemble will perform the world premiere from the renowned composer Ian Wilson, entitled Passerine Night for Soprano and Chamber Ensemble.
The ensemble is made up of some of the most talented and versatile musicians in the UK and Ireland led by international violinist Joanne Quigley McParland.
Pianist David Quigley will perform both Wilson and Harty pieces.
Joanne says: “To our knowledge there have been no performances in Ireland of this work by Hamilton Harty north or south and ours would appear to be the Irish premiere in The Harty Room at Queens.”
“This is a significant moment in the cultural expression of Northern Ireland’s finest musical tradition and we are delighted that soprano Maire Flavin is performing with us again.
“I cannot over emphasise how important Ian Wilson’s piano and soprano piece is in terms of its celebration of our musical identity.”
