Killyleagh store named Post Office Retailer of the Year at prestigious London awards
EUROSPAR Killyleagh has been named Post Office Retailer of the Year at the Retail Industry Awards, which recently took place in London.
The Awards are acknowledged as one of the most prestigious retail award schemes in the UK and this is the first time the Killyleagh supermarket, operated by Henderson Retail, has been victorious since opening in 2023.
Judges praised the store for bringing the “vital community service” of the Post Office to the village, which hasn’t had a bank since 2018, and noted the impressive growth of both footfall and overall visits since opening.
“This is a company-owned store, but it’s run like an independent,” said one judge. “The postmaster takes a personal interest in the progress of this store.”
Henderson Retail picked up four awards in total, while two independent retailers won an award each.
McKillop’s SPAR, Ballymena took home the award for Independent Retailer of the Year (up to 3,000 sq. ft.) and Lynch’s EUROSPAR Trench Road in Derry/Londonderry picked up the award for Fresh Produce of the Year.
Henderson Retail was crowned Forecourt Retailer of the Year for the third year in a row, while the company also picked up Community Retailer of the Year.
Alongside EUROSPAR Killyleagh, EUROSPAR Saintfield Road, Lisburn was named Forecourt Retailer of the Year.
Mark McCammond, Retail Director at Henderson Group said: “The Retail Industry Awards get more competitive every year, and we’re delighted to meet that challenge head on and come away with a host of respected awards.
“We are delighted that EUROSPAR Killyleagh has received recognition for its dedication to the local community and the vital services they provide with the Post Office.
“Both the Post Office and store teams work as one to provide for the local community, which the judges agreed has made the business a true success.”
The 2024 Retail Industry Awards took place on the 18th September at The Brewery on Chiswell Street, London and were hosted by comedian, author and advocate for human rights, Shaparak ‘Shappi’ Khorsandi.
