Two County Down EUROSPARs see key staff members win accolades
Downpatrick and Kilkeel retailers take home top industry awards
Two retail outlets in Downpatrick and Kilkeel have won awards at Northern Ireland’s top awards for the retail and grocery sector.
The NR Awards, held by Neighbourhood Retailer magazine, took place at the Crowne Plaza, Belfast recently, where EUROSPAR Downpatrick was named Newcomer of the Year and John Fox from EUROSPAR Greencastle Street, Kilkeel was named Store Manager of the Year.
Both stores are owned and operated by Henderson Retail, which owns 109 SPAR and EUROSPAR stores across Northern Ireland.
Judges said of EUROSPAR Downpatrick, which opened earlier this year; “This store made a strong impression. Mystery shoppers were impressed by its spacious and inviting design, as well as its extensive product selection.”
Meanwhile, of John Fox at EUROSPAR Greencastle Street, judges said; “The recipient of this award was recognised for their drive and determination. John has worked tirelessly to achieve concrete goals, partnering closely with their team to deliver exceptional results.”
Over 400 entries were received for the awards this year, meaning another record breaking year for the ceremony, with 10 awards won by SPAR and EUROSPAR stores and their teams on the night.

EUROSPAR Downpatrick and EUROSPAR Greencastle Street, Kilkeel were two of 10 SPAR and EUROSPAR wins on the night, with Creightons EUROSPAR of Balmoral picking up Neighbourhood Store of the Year (category 3) and the top award of the night, Neighbourhood Retailer of the Year 2024.
